Therapeutic Summer Camp | The elbowroom
One of the best things about the summer for any child is the opportunity to go to summer camp! A chance to play activities, try new things and build meaningful friendships. Having worked in the camp world for over a period of 5 years in Ireland, UK and Africa, I’ve seen the outstanding impact that a well-developed therapeutic camp programme has on the lives of children with specific needs. We have a parent information night about our therapeutic camps taking place on Wednesday May 22nd at 8.30pm in The elbowroom. I look forward to meeting you and sharing more of what we have planned here in the summer at The elbowroom Continue reading

WWJS: The UNE Summer Golden Thread
This is something I’d be doing for the first time here. I normally try to avoid blogging about something I haven’t personally used because that’s just how I roll but when this beautiful face landed on my inbox, I knew I just had to make an exception. I was 75% impressed already (I’m obviously only saving the 25% for the actual experience) which is why I think it is more rude not to share!See what I mean? Continue reading

It's How You Play the Game – Application Bling
As school winds down for the summer, baseball season is ending soon for my son who is a sophomore in high school. For me, the season can’t end soon enough, yet four months ago we were all excitedly anticipating baseball season. This feeling has nothing to do wins and losses, or the actual game itself. It has to do with the same disgust that ends up spoiling what should be a positive experience and it’s happened in some form every year since our kids were six years old.We keep hanging on to hope that they are learning important life lessons that will help them through challenging times the rest of their lives. Continue reading

PSC: Story and giveaway by Kat Richardson
Our guest post today is by Kat Richardson! She’s an absolutely brilliant writer and I was overjoyed when she agreed to participate in Paranormal Summer Camp. GREYWALKER, her first dark urban fantasy, was one of the books that sucked me into the genre and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. Her books are all about Harper Blaine, a private investigator who can now through the Grey (a realm of ghosts, vampires, and more that exists between worlds) after a near-death experience Continue reading

What Does IT Mean « cravesadventure
August 3, 2012What Does IT MeanBy cravesadventureSelf – AcceptanceI have been working on self-acceptance this year and it is certainly a work in progress. The 1st Steps; Baby StepsAccepting Yourself for Who You Are NOT Afraid to Look at Yourself for Who You Are STOP Burdening Yourself with Your Own Problems and/or Drama For me self-acceptance is tri-fold; 1) accepting myself, 2) embracing my talents and 3) changing for the better. Some lessons I have learned along the journey; a) get out of your own way, b) letting some things just go and c) do not add to the drama. One of These are NOT the Same & That is Okay (Photo by RSheridan)Leave the Attitude at HomeWe ALL have attitude and lets ALL confess to it – ha! You do not like someone up in your business, especially yourself. Why is there drama and unnecessary drama at that? I think we need to stop watching so many reality shows because those suckers breed, suck and drip with negative drama and drama overload Continue reading

Set Your DVR Tonight!
Paulina Porizkova”Modeling doesn’t have anything to do with self-confidence.Working off of your looks makes youpretty much the opposite of self-confident.” Ed. Note: Sometimes I just don’t know how to thank Marsi for what she brings to this blog — in oh, so many ways, more than you know.Today she is making me extremely jealous. I won’t be able to see the television program she tells us about below.Thank you again, my darling Marsi for more of your “value-added.”Tonight (Monday, July 30, for those in the United States), HBO is premiering a documentary I think we’ll all be keen to see.”About Face: Supermodels Then and Now” is a rumination on physical beauty, aging, self-awareness, and confidence, as told by some of the most famous and fabulous fashion models of the late 20th century. In their own words: Marisa Berenson “When you get older, you build something else in your core which is beyond the physical because it has to.” Jerry Hall “I think it’s bad that we have as role models people who look scary to young children. They’re cutting up their faces. Continue reading
How to nurture your kids confidence this summer « Raising Able …
Making scones is fun and sometimes messy.Kids are messy. Cleaning up after them is part of part of being a mother. That wisdom came from my mother, who had nine children and cleaned up many different kinds of messes. When things get messy, they get interesting. Creativity starts flowing, interest heightens, you get lost in the project. Discovery occurs. Problems get encountered and solved. Confidence and self-esteem build through the experience.None of this happens if you have to worry about “Mom getting mad about a messy kitchen,” or “Dad getting upset that his tools didn’t get put away.”It takes time to clean up and teach them how to put away the tools where they belong in the workshop and kitchen Continue reading
