Robotics camp helps students cross the digital divide – Knight …

Robotics Camp 2013 – Short Film from Shamus Coneys Films on Vimeo.A year ago Knight Foundation announced plans to put laptops into the hands of young students in Charlotte, N.C., through Project LIFT, a public-private partnership that seeks to improve student achievement. Today, we see what can happen when students have access to technology: They can build a better mousetrap – or at least one made of LEGOs – while also building self-confidence.Knight partnered with Project LIFT (Leadership and Investment for Transformation) because we believe children without tech tools and access to the Internet cannot fully participate in the world around them. Knight’s grant moves them one step closer to crossing the digital divide. In a two-week robotics camp, the LIFT students in the accompanying video demonstrated that they’re taking a big leap over it. Your Secret Weapon from Host Cena Block | Word of Mom Radio

Why Self Confidence Is YourSecret Weapon For Business SuccessAs a coach for small business owners, I meet new people every day in the course of business. What I find to be one of the most distinguishing characteristics between those people who succeed in business and those who struggle has surprisingly nothing to do with their product, their service, not even their pricing. The secret weapon that distinguishes those who succeed from those who fail is none other than self-confidence.The surprising thing for most new business owners is that self-confidence is something you actually can improve yourself. To truly understand self-confidence it’s important to look at a few key terms.Self-Efficacy is a belief in your capacity to handle, master & succeed at performing certain tasks or skills and reaching your goals. The sources of self-efficacy come from hard work, practice, accepting difficult challenges and persisting despite setbacks. Examples of self-efficacy are objectively seen in people’s demonstrated “skills”: driving, speaking, studying, math, parenting, running your own business. Self-Esteem refers to your general feelings of self-worth or self-value. Continue reading

Update

So I was driving home when I came upon a realization that I thought was journal worthy.I realized that I eagerly and desperately subconsciously search for The One. How every date I have gone on, every relationship, and every flirt I have given was all in search of her. Also how I passionately want to give my entire being to someone. Now, the relationships I have had I try to give 100% of me, but my heart will sometimes disagree and only give percentages of me, whether I like it or not. And then I feel guilt because the other person is giving all they can, and I am only giving out percentages Continue reading

Assertiveness Course | Confidence Building – Taylor Mason Training

Assertiveness Course Buffer Assertiveness CourseOften wrongly confused with aggression, assertive individuals aim to be neither passive nor aggressive in their interactions with other people. Although everyone acts in passive and aggressive ways from time to time, such ways of responding often result from a lack of self confidence and, therefore, are inappropriate expressions of what such people really need to say.Non-assertiveness may be seen as the use of inefficient communication skills, whereas assertiveness is considered a balanced response, being neither passive nor aggressive. The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines assertiveness as:“Forthright, positive, insistence on the recognition of one’s rights”We could summarise this to:  “Assertiveness means standing up for your personal rights – expressing thoughts, feelings and beliefs in direct, honest and appropriate ways.” It is important to note also that “By being assertive we should always respect the thoughts, feelings and beliefs of other people”During the assertiveness course you learn how to be more assertive and confident within yourself and recognise the difference between assertive and aggressive behaviour. Music for All Ages at the Academy of Music on Main Street

As the saying goes, “When a door closes, a window opens.” This was the story of Melody Stevens, a public school teacher turned entrepreneur when she was not granted tenure at the New Jersey public school where she had worked. Stevens turned the situation into a positive experience by applying to work full-time at the Academy of Music on Main Street in New Jersey. The next day, Stevens was offered the place. She bought the school and turned it into what is now one of the most inspiring stories in business and music. Continue reading

Orthodontist Miami Boosts Self Confidence with Invisalign and Braces

Children, teens, and adults alike have a universal need to feel like they belong and fit in whether it be in school, socially, or in the work force.  To do so, self-esteem plays an important role in building self-confidence and a beautiful smile goes a long way building both.During impressionable years, kids and teens tend to want to blend in and be more like their peers.  As they mature and become more self-confident, they better understand the power of a great smile.  A nice smile displays confidence, shows friends and peers you like and enjoy their company, and provides a tool to succeed in life.  Those who are unhappy with the look of their teeth have a tendency to smile less and often aren’t as outgoing.Dale Carnegie devoted an entire chapter of his book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” to the significance of having a nice smile.  When teeth are unattractive due to lack of good oral hygiene or an orthodontic problem such as crowding, spacing or a skeletal jaw discrepancy, many individuals are too self-conscious to put themselves out there.  It impairs their ability to fit in socially and studies show it can affect one’s ability to succeed in the work force, which in turn reduces long term earning ability. You are never too old to undergo orthodontic treatment and we’ve treated patients as old as 85 years old in our practice…and they loved having braces Continue reading

How To Be Confident (At Any Age and at Any Size) – Hems for Her

Earlier this week I asked for submissions for my FAQ page, and new reader-friend Mari commented that she’d like to see a post about building confidence. Self-esteem and confidence are two things very close to my heart- not only because I was a child, teen, and young adult with major self-esteem issues, but also because I work with teens and young adults just like me every day. I can’t remember exactly when I “became confident”, but I’m pretty sure I remember when I first lost confidence in myself.I was in fourth grade- I had terrible acne and worse teeth. I remember being picked on all the time about one or the other- neither of which I had any control over Continue reading

Build self-confidence | USSD Karate, Palo Alto

Build self-confidenceWe teach the younger generation self-discipline and self-confidence. Martial arts training strengthens all the muscle groups, improves flexibility and coordination, and promotes mental toughness and perseverance. Improved self-esteem is a natural byproduct of this. Our martial arts training program can be helpful to children with physical challenges and to those with behavioral problems or personality traits that have made it difficult for them to succeed at other sports. Children who don’t seem to thrive in team sports often succeed in martial arts. Some parents may wonder if the martial arts encourage aggressive and show-off behavior. We have found that a shy child is energized by learning martial arts; an energetic child finds a new sense of calm. A bully finds out that he isn’t as tough as he thought he was.Our instructors are very clear that the skills you learn are for self-defense, not for attacking others Continue reading

Self Improvement | Building Your Sense of Humor and …

By Christina Sponias – You don’t necessarily need to be able to tell nice jokes if you want to be funny. As a matter of fact, you humor will be better evaluated if you simply make funny observations than if you keep telling jokes to everyone. Perhaps you don’t have any talent on being funny. You feel ashamed; you don’t know what to say or how to say it so that it will really make everyone laugh. If you are insecure and shy you are too afraid of everyone’s disapproval Continue reading

Stop Self-Doubt in Its Tracks and Build Self-Confidence | Psychology …

Way too many people walk through life carrying the heavy weight of self-doubt. Deep down, they fear that they are missing some essential quality that would make them truly successful socially (worthy of love) or in other aspects of life (e.g. professionally, sports). They worry about friends and loved ones leaving them; or thinking less of them because of something they’ve done or failed to do. Continue reading
