Minnesota State Finalist Hailey Steele featured in the local Media

Miss Hailey Lynn Steele, age 5, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Minnesota Pageant to be held June 1-June 2 at the beautiful Doubletree Hotel in Bloomington.The National American Miss pageants are held for girls age 4-18, and have five different age divisions.Hailey will be participating in the Princess age division, along with other outstanding young ladies from across the great state of Minnesota.The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses, and air transportation to compete in the National pageant in California where she will receive an exciting complimentary tour of Hollywood and two V.I.P tickets to Disneyland.The National American Miss Pageants are unlike any other. Many of our children today get praised by parents, teachers, and other adults a great deal. Things like “good job” and “well done” are heard all the time because our good intentions can inspire them, right?Despite the good intentions some praise maybe be hurting our children. When I first heard this idea I though how is this possible? Danish Psychologist, Dan Svarre wrote a book a few years back called “Happy Children With High Self-Esteem.” In his introduction, he wrote, “This is the book I wish I had read when I first became a father.” He came to understand the difference between self-esteem and self-confidence while working with children many of who were struggling even though they came from resourceful and loving families.I really never understood the difference between self-esteem and self-confidence.
