The phoenix rises from ashes and Facebook

There are going to be cycles; of journaling and not. It’s hard to recognize a cycle in its first turn, and perhaps I am making an inaccurate prediction. This first turn was marked by less time to reflect, even perhaps less desire to reflect, a different way to connect with people (Facebook*), and various life transitions. In the interim, I’ve learned about birth, nursing, parenting, smart phones, and management at work, home and of emotions. I’ve established my self confidence, moved jobs, started my architectural exams, gotten to know my daughter, made new friends, said goodbye to some of the best friends I’ve had in St Continue reading

Building confidence with speech

GLOSSOPHOBIA is the fear of speaking in public or of trying to speak. Physical symptoms of glossophobia include anxiety, clammy hands and a dry mouth.Comedian Jerry Seinfeld believed that a person’s number one fear is public speaking followed by death.“This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy,” he said.PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd group chief executive and managing director Datuk Michael Tio shared that he used to have butterflies in the stomach before having to speak in front of an audience.Over the years, he managed to overcome his fear through ample practice.“It is important to know your subjects well before speaking. It’s helped me improve my self-confidence and socializing skills. Continue reading

Unable to Say

Anais Nin says the role of the writer is say what “we” are unable to say. I think this not only speaks of issues that people are scared to open up about, but just that generally good writers can eloquently or appropriately voice what we awkwardlytalk about or what we do not know how to express in the word form.Recently the subject of women and self-confidence has uprooted in conversation. This seems to the recent theme among certain acquaintances of mine. Confidence starts when you’re little because this is when we first start to believe in ourselves Continue reading

Once upon a time, a man sat down at his computer, typing away, trying to remember something he had forgotten, or perhaps regain a skill he had once had, but had long since lost. But no, he told himself. That wasn’t right; the skill was still there. He used it all the time, and it worked great, as long as he could avoid actually thinking about it or dwelling on what he was doing. Continue reading
